The Field Service Technician III is a senior level role responsible for advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices and infrastructure supporting the Memphis SmartWay system. This position serves as a technical lead in the field, handling complex issues and supporting team operations while ensuring compliance with contract requirements and SLAs.
Your responsibilities:
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on ITS systems
Respond to and resolve trouble tickets within required timelines
Diagnose and repair complex issues across multiple ITS devices
Maintain and support systems including CCTV, DMS, HAR, detection systems, wireless communications, fiber optic networks, and network equipment
Perform utility locating for fiber and power infrastructure
Install, upgrade, modify, and replace ITS equipment as required
Utilize diagnostic tools and testing equipment to troubleshoot system faults
Maintain accurate daily logs, labor tracking, and service records
Receive and manage inventory and assist with material requests
Support subcontractors and ensure work meets quality and specification standards
Assist and guide junior technicians in field operations
Work Environment:
Outdoor and roadside work near active traffic and elevated equipment
On-call rotation (approximately one week per month)
Non-standard hours including nights and weekends as needed
Your Profile:
Associate’s degree in Electronics, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience
3–5 years of relevant field experience (ITS or similar preferred)
Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical, fiber optic, and network systems
Ability to read schematics and technical plans
Experience with electronic testing equipment
Knowledge of low voltage systems, networking, and wireless communications
Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and basic Office tools
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Highly desired:
Experience with ITS/SmartWay systems
Hands-on work with CCTV, DMS, HAR, detection systems, and network infrastructure
RF or microwave communication experience
Roadside or transportation system experience
CDL preferred or ability to obtain one, Must obtain once hired
